Hi, I'm Sujin, born and raised in Seoul, Korea. I turn 19 next Thursday(5/27/21). I briefly had the chance to go to a British school and meet classmates from all around the world when I was young. Back then, I inevitably had to speak English during half of my day in order to communicate and say what I have to say, so I have a basic sense of grammar and common structures of English sentences. Unfortunately, ever since I came back to Korea in 2012, speaking English on a daily basis wasn't a necessity anymore, and English classes in Korean schools I went to weren't very effective when it came to practical English skills.
As a result, my English speaking skills and vocabulary has plummeted. It's better when I'm WRITING in English- usually when I'm alone so that I can take my time, go through what I'm going to say, choose the right vocabulary, look back on what I've written and refine my sentences. But I can't do that when I have an English speaker right there in front of me, waiting for me to say something. I panic, which makes my sentences even harder to understand.
I want to expand the range of people I can communicate/interact with, and explore all kinds of worlds out there. I thought being able to speak English was a good way of realizing that, so I decided to make friends with fluent English speakers and regain my skill of putting my thoughts into clear, accurate English sentences.
I'm also interested in Japanese, due to my love towards Japanese animated films, but can barely say a single sentence. I've only picked up a few words through my favorite films. I'm planning to take it easy and start with vocabulary on Japanese at the moment.
I would like to use kakaotalk or zoom/skype,where it's similar to an actual off-line conversation and immediate feedback is easily available. Starting off with texted chats and then moving on to verbal conversations afterwards is fine as well.
Have a nice day:)
